Open Question: Dropping benefits of spouse qualify as “change in status”?
My open enrollment period for health insurance is in May and my wife’s is in December. We are both currently getting health insurance through our respective employers, but I would really like to drop my wife’s insurance at the end of the year and then immediately add her under my employers insurance. There won’t be any change in employment status – just (voluntary) loss of medical coverage.
Is this a qualified change in status under the IRS rules, which would allow me to add my wife (and dependent)?
My second question is if we drop my wife’s insurance and she doesn’t qualify to go my insurance, would my dependent who is currently on my wife’s insurance be allowed to be added to my insurance.
Thanks!
Open Question: Will insurance cover this accident….?
OK we have Geico and very low rates. My brother purchases a car for his girlfriend, he owns it -holds the title and has a small loan on it. She was in a accident where a student driver in a drivers ed car wrecked into her, totaling the car. They are 100% at fault and already made a cash offer. We owe around 10500 on the car, and put down 2000, they are offering 11600, so we would loose around 1000 dollars, but we had the card for 45 days.
OK, so thats pretty straight forward. We told Geico and they are keeping off their books because its being paid out of pocket.
SO my brothers girlfriend was hurt enough to goto the hospital and get medical attention.
a week later my brother rents her a car from enterprise, which wouldn’t rent to her (under 21, and no credit card), so he rented it for himself and gave her the keys. Then she totaled it. this time her fault, she was arrested for DUI, and DWI. Not drunk, she blew .00, but refused the blood test. She claims that from the first accident they gave her pain medicine (vicodine), that made her disoriented.
Since the she was not on the rental policy enterprise is holding my brother at fault. My question is will Geico pay out, i know we have rental coverage, but she (the GF) is not on our policy. The car he purchased for her, was insured but not her. We never added her to our policy. She was arrested and tickets issues, driving left of center, DUI, and DWI. etc. Will Geico cover this?
I think i should clarify, the rental was in my brothers name, but she was under 21 and not allowed to drive the vehicle, but she did, with my brothers permission. I need to know if insurance will cover it or deny the claim?
Open Question: Do you like the big insurance companies? Or would you like to see them fail?
Do you like that they get to decide on what medical coverage you can have? Are they a death panel in your definition?
