Open Question: Will the government also make people go to doctors in addition to making them pay for health insurance?
If they make health insurance mandatory, will they also make it mandatory that you give the health industry some business in addition to the insurance premium?

Resolved Question: Is it true that one employee’s serious illness can drive up premiums for the whole company, esp. a small co.?
“Because premiums are “experience rated” based on the health histories of a given company’s employees, one serious illness can drive costs up so high that health insurance becomes unaffordable, especially for smaller companies.”

Open Question: Is this the dumbest arguement against public health care ever?
I wish I’d caught the politic ans name (but I didn’t), but he was a GOP senator from a conservative strong hold. The discussion was on having two health care systems, public (nationalized) and private (current) and allowing them to compete against each other.

His argument against having a public health care system compete against private companies was that ’180 million people would opt out of the private system in favor of the public system, driving private premiums up’.

So, isn’t his argument that the reason we shouldn’t have public health care is because too many people want it? Didn’t he actually make a case FOR public health care? And what planet is he from that he things insurance premiums aren’t already astronomical and rising?

Any counter points?
goverment can’t run a health care system? That is yet to be proven, but it’s obvious the private sector cannot!
There may be problems with the goverment running programs, but they are nothing compared to greedy insurance companies running it. That’s why competition between them is so brilliant.Checks and balances
Smellyfoot: Yes, another good arguement for public health care. Why should employers be forced to carry the burden of heath care. The average cost of health care for a US manufactured auto is $1,500. Lifting this burden from companies would increase our competitiaveness in the world market.
