Open Question: health insurance in VA?
If I’m looking to leave my job in June, I’m going to have to pick up my own insurance. Right now I work for the state and have insurance through Blue Cross/Blue Shield. I think the COBRA payments are going to be too high. I don’t really understand the system. I generally go to the doctor 4-5 times a year max, take a couple of medications, need dental and vision coverage as well. How do I know if I should get a high or low deductible? I know a higher deductible will mean a lower premium, but doesn’t that mean I have to pay more out of pocket?

Voting Question: CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME UNDERSTAND MY HEALTH INSURANCE POLICY?
I have a $5000. deductible on my husbands health insurance policy, there is probably about $500.00 been paid towards it this year. He has to take a polysomnography next month, it will cost $4000. How does that work, whenever we go into the hospital for this test, will they (hosp) make us pay the rest of the money upfront, to equal the $5000. deductible, before they will be willing to do this test on my husband. Or will the test be done, and the hosp. will send the bill to my insurance co. to go towards the deductible, and bill me for the balance. I just do not understand how the insurance works? I sure hope someone can help me understand this. Thanks for your help.

FriendFeed Does it bother anybody else how Obama constantly talks about how his plan is to help “working Americans.” So are people who make $150,000 a year or more (or whatever the current cut off is now) NOT working Americans? Seems to me, most of these people are among some of the hardest working Americans we have!
