Open Question: What health care plan should I join?? whats your opinion?
I am in marketing/DECA and I have to create a 30-60 second speech about what health care plan I should do. Our teacher told us his opinion on what he thought about the current system, and the proposed system. Below are the lecture notes I took during class (but you dont need to read them all i just wasnt sure if you needed them all):
-16 million illegal alliends dont have insurance
-15 million have money but choose not to buy insurance
-15 million who are insured but cant afford it
-259 million who have insurance
Our existing system: If you get a MINOR injury, the insured are treated and unisured are treated (or pay themselves/subsidized by insured). If you get a MAJOR injury, most insured are treated, but uninsured arent and die.
Proposed system: If you get any injury/sickness, most insured are treated, uninsured are treated (govt. pays for uninsured)
What happens when you add 46 million people to the system and amount of resources stay the same?
-everyone has to wait longer (govt decides who gets treatment)
-who decides whog ets what kind of care and when (in new current system, those with money/insurance get care, in a new system, the govt allocates care)
How to pay for all additional care: required insurance for all or pay a fine, redistribution of wealth for social justice.
Under current systems, if you get sick before you get insurance, no one has to insure you, so you do your best to get coverage BEFORE you get suck so you get treatment.
Under the new plan, federal govt. requires you to buy insurance. If you make $50,000.year, insurance will cost you $4000/year. If no insurance, youll be fined $1000/year.
If your sick with no insurance, you can get it AFTER you gte suck to get the treatment you need (no denial for pre exisitng conditions).
So why buy insurance? Why not pay till you need insurance??
Insurance companies:
drop off insurance roles and elect to pay the small fine, buisnesses will drop people off of insurance and pay smaller fine to cut cost, and insurance companies will get less and less money coming in while experience increases because they need to pay for more and more.
Okay sorry that was so long. Those were all the lecture notes. I really don’t understand busniess and marketing! Its not my forte. And I have no idea what he means by choose a health care plan??? what other plans ARE there?! IM SO CONFUSED. This makes no sense to me. So please please help. It will help me so much.
You don’t need to read ALL of this lol! just the begining and end I think.
Open Question: Working instead of continuing university?
Im a freshman at a 4 year university and I was really excited at first about going to school but I have come to realize that the professors here are really bad and the engineering program i am in is under-funded and overall, really crappy. My tuition for one semester is costing around $3000 dollars (in-state).
So basically I have decided that I want to work an entire year and then go to school. Here is what I want I want to know:
1) Will I have to be taken off health insurance by not being enrolled in school?
2) Will the credits I have received from passing my classes transfer over when I plan on going back to school?
3) If you have had experience doing this or know anybody who has done this, was it worth it in the end?
4) If my credits do not transfer over, is $3000 dollars a big deal to pay off later down the road?
