Resolved Question: COBRA insurance and pre-existing medical conditions?
I am changing jobs and the med insurance for my new job doesn’t become effective for 90 days. I had planned to just go without insurance for that period, on the assumption that if I had a major problem I could retroactively pay for COBRA premiums (over $1000/mo…) and then be covered. My new insurance will cover pre-existing medical conditions, but only if there is no gap in insurance coverage. So, if I do not invoke the COBRA coverage during this 90 day period does this constitute a gap in coverage that would negate the pre-existing condition coverage?
These are two completely different answers – can’t anyone offer any clarification on this? The correct answer will save me considerable money. Thanks!
Resolved Question: Prescription insurance question?
Plan A , cobra,is higher price but doesn’t have a limit on prescription drugs.
Plan B, Virginia Anthem key care flexible choice, is lower priced but has a $5000 max per person on prescription drugs. Knowing that drugs can bankrupt you, I asked the plan administrator about how expenisive drug therapies, such as for cancers, or chronic disease, are handled. He said that shouldn’t be a problem because they are or can be administered in the doctors office or medical facility and therefore are covered under the medical plan provisions.
Questions
1) does anyone have experience or opinion on whether the claim made by the anthem rep is true? (expensive drugs covered under medical if administered at the doctors office)
2) How do I get that in writing or how can I better assess what they will or will not pay?
Resolved Question: Why is it that the people who say the US has the best healthcare system, have an “I’ve got mine” attitude?
The problem seems to be that the people who say that are covered by health insurance. What they don’t seem to understand is that if you either can’t afford, or can’t get health insurance, you might as well be living in a third-world country.
In my particular case, I still had COBRA when I got sick, and it ran out while I was in the hospital. I used up all of my savings to pay my medical bills after that. Now the only health insurance I can get costs $1500/month. I don’t even gross $1500/month at my present job which doesn’t offer health insurance.
So, what happens if I should get sick again? Just die? Who’s going to pay for the disposal of my body?
Ah, yes, Canada, but don’t you know that your healthcare system is second-rate, and that’s why Canadians are flocking to the US by the thousands to get their healthcare?
