Open Question: Any low $ health insurance options for someone unemployed, w/o a disability, who can’t get COBRA or Medicaid?
My mother is 55 and unemployed. She does not have a disability. She has several pre-existing conditions. I don’t think she is going to find a job any time soon. She has about $20k saved, but she is going through it quickly because of living costs and medical expenses. I predict she’ll have nothing in 18 months to 2 years. She was recently on Adult Basic’s waiting list for low-cost insurance, but the costs have been raised and she can no longer afford it. Currently she has no insurance, which is dangerous for her and my family. I haven’t found many answers for what to do for her. Any thoughts?

I had surgery to correct a deviated septum last month and I found out the morning of my surgery that my insurance had been cancelled ten days before. I and others in management were terminated from a retail chain due to bad audits two weeks prior but I thought I had until the end of the month to be able to use my benefits (the surgery date was set two months prior). Aside from this, I never got any Cobra letters in the mail like I once did after my last job to continue health coverage. Now I have bills coming to me for amounts I can’t possibly afford. It seems weird that 1: I was never given an option to get Cobra, 2: They cut my insurance off 10 days after termination. If I pick up Cobra with my current situation, is it possible for me to relay my bills to them?
