Open Question: pregnant, unemployment compensation, and health insurance?
I live in Ky. Recently both husband and I are unemployed, taking in the maximum of $415/wk/each, got a 1 yr baby, got $55k in savings, got a house, got Roth IRA, and got former company’s 401k. I also got accidentally pregnant after being unemployed with no health insurance. Can I get affordable health insurance for myself & unborn child, and also my 1yr old? If so where and how? No, COBRA sucks– not affordable. We do NOT want to dip into our savings too much because we do not know when we will need it. And my husband is talking about abortion because time is too tough right now.

Open Question: If I am leaving my job to start a business, how do I obtain health insurance?
My employer has been steadily cutting hours and pay. I want to leave and start up my own company. The problem is I have 2 kids and a wife and we need health coverage. I know I’d be eligible for COBRA, but the gov’t will not subsidize my payment since my termination was voluntary. My wife’s employer offers crappy coverage and only contributes a tiny amount. The rate is extremely expensive and we cannot afford it. Is there any way I can obtain reasonable coverage as a new business? I’d probably be incorporating as a sole proprietor and I live in New York state (Long Island). I’ve tried looking into Family Health Plus and Healthy NY, but we’re not eligible for either. FHP – my wife’s salary is too high. Healthy NY – we’re not eligible because my wife’s employer offers insurance and does make a contribution to it, even if it is miniscule. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

Hi. my husband covers our insurance and his paycheck wasn’t enough to cover it because he hasn’t had enough work. So, do we lose it? Do we have to go through COBRA? Most importantly, when his check goes back to normal in 2 weeks, will we be covered like normal again? Thanks. This is so important as we have a small child and an infant at home.
