Resolved Question: New health care bill coming out – question on cost?
I am concerned when heard that Congress & the President are about to pass the Deomcrats new national health care bill – Apparently one stipulation in this law is that everyone HAS to have insurance coverage – either the plan you have now thru your employer, or a plan that you pay for out-of-pocket (ie Blue Cross, Aetna, etc), or Medicare or Medicaid – BUT if you have NO insurance (my case) and you are eligible for Welfare’s Medicaid, then I heard you are going to FORCED to purchase a medical plan and pay out-of-pocket for it? Otherwise there will be Stiff fines for people who don’t comply. My big concern is for people in my case, I was laid off from my job quite some time ago (a year now), I have no income right now, and no medical insurance – so how can the government FORCE me to pay for medical insurance if I Cannot afford it ??!! I don’t have the money for insurance, If I did, heck I would be Paying for it right now out of my pocket !! It doesn’t make sense to me. Basically the govt is going to FORCE people like me to pay cash that they don’t have for a policy??
Does anyone know the specifics of this new Bill yet that is about to come out ?? Does anyone know what an individual would have to pay for his/her medical insurance per month or per year for this new govt mandated medical insurance policy ?? Thank you for any help that you can give me.
Jon D you are a damn idiot – you gave NO information to address the question of what each person would be required to pay. Car insurance? WTF? You idiot.
I am glad u do have insurance apparently you have ADD and can’t focus on the question at hand. In my case, I have too many assets to ever qualify for WELFARE so that’s not a concern – I already SAID that in my initial question. I just want to know what its going to cost a single person in their 40s per year for this new National Health Care – Simple QUESTION Jon D. Are there any normal people out there that have heard what the figures are regarding cost ? thank you.
Thanks Lar for actually reading/answering the question I appreciate it – I guess I mis-stated a little bit in my initial question – I didn’t mean to imply everyone is Forced to buy it – I think what they are planning to do is say “Buy health insurance, or you will pay a tax penalty”, which I had heard figures of 1000 to 2000 dollars in tax penalties per person at the end of tax year if you fail to carry any health insurance. (PS the whole issue of welfare, medicade, is a whole nother nasty bag of worms I didnt even want to get into – I totally disagree with the constant abuse of Welfare and medicaid I witness every day going on by both americans and immigrants coming in here & getting on welfare immediately). As I said, I have a house, a car, and savings/investments, so I will never qualify for welfare since I did work hard for 35 years and saved for a rainy day. I do not believe in handouts, unless people Truly are honestly & deservedly needy and should be getting assistance.
Thanks SGOLD, yes I did fopa on the welfare statement (not qualifying) in the initial question. Meant to say that, added it later. I did once talk to social services just to see what qualifications are for assistance – basically you cannot have any money in the bank (no more than I believe 80 dollars where I am in state of MD) – cannot own a car – cannot own a house – cannot have assets/retirement plan, 401k, IRA, etc. Basically you can’t legally own or have anything as far as assets (on record anyhow). If you meet all the above criteria, then HECK YEA – party time – you get everything baby – free medical via Medicaid, foodstamps galore, cash fund, child care, Section 8 pays your rent, transportation allowance, additional subsidy for continued education (if you go to school), heating oil and utilities paid for – U NAME IT U GET IT – I worked for Maryland Welfare Dept for 3 years so I know exactly what they get – it averages almost $20 an hour on welfare here. WHY WORK ?? sickening??
Thanks Patriot – thats alot of great info – I probably came across wrong initially, I am TOTALLY FOR national health care – I mean heck I DO NOT HAVE health care at all right now – in MD the cheapest policy I could find for individual in my category was 600-700 a month !! Can’t do that – since I am out of work. Also let me clarify, when I said I did not qualify for any assistance(welfare) that is cause I have too many assets, but they are pretty much NON-liquid assets, ie I can’t just spend the money (house, car equity, retirement/IRA account, CDs, etc) -so I am cash poor basically, which is why I can’t afford the high price of health insurance right now. I am totally for National Health care if it would provide me with medical insurance even in my current situation, at low cost or litle cost. But, if the new Nat’l health care was same price as current private insurance like BC/BS, then no way, its not going to anyone any good at all.
Resolved Question: i need medical attention in CA! Please Help!?
Are there any medical programs in CA that can help??
A little about my situation:
1. I was denied health insurance from Blue-cross/Anthem
2. I was denied by a local county medical program because i “made too much money” [ i make a tiny bit more than 200% Federal Poverty Level]
3. I am unemployed and found that i cannot reduce how much money i get each month. the only other option would be to quit unemployment.
4. i am 27 and have no kids. AFAIK that means i am not eligible for MediCAL.
I fear that i need multiple tests done including upper and lower GI series/Xray/MRI to determine what the heck is causing all this pain.
I fear even worse having to pay this out of pocket, but if it comes down to that i would.
Thank you so much for your time!
Resolved Question: How much will a brain cat scan cost me with insurance?
I am scheduled for a brain cat scan in about a week. I live in Texas and on Blue Cross/ Blue Shield medical insurance. I pay 70/30, so my insurance sucks, i have a $500 deductible as well. I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas how much I will end up paying. This cat scan isn’t necessary, so I think if it is too much i will just cancel it and wait until next year. I suffer from headaches every day and migraines once a week. Thankyou in advance.

A 38-year-old woman in Ithaca, N.Y., said she was raped last year and then penalized by insurers because in giving her medical history she mentioned an assault she suffered in college 17 years earlier. The woman, Kimberly Fallon, told a nurse about the previous attack and months later, her doctor’s office sent her a bill for treatment. She said she was informed by a nurse and, later, the hospital’s billing department that her health insurance company, Blue Cross Blue Shield, not only had declined payment for the rape exam, but also would not pay for therapy or medication for trauma because she “had been raped before.
